Patient Information

One of the main concerns for patients is cost and payment for services. At The San Diego Institute of Plastic Surgery, some surgery is covered by insurance, and some is not. Plastic surgery falls into two categories: cosmetic and reconstructive. Cosmetic surgery is optional, and is chosen by men and women to improve their appearance. Reconstructive surgery may be needed to restore function and appearance after an injury, burn, or to repair damage from another surgery, such as a mastectomy. Reconstructive surgery is also used to improve the appearance of birthmarks, cleft palate, and other birth defects.

In some cases there is a gray area between cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, which may require special consideration by an insurance carrier. For example, eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is a procedure normally performed to achieve cosmetic improvement, but it may be covered if the eyelids are drooping severely and obscuring a patient’s vision.

During your initial consultation with Dr. Hallak, you will be provided information about the cost of your procedure, which you can take home with you to consider. If you have additional questions, please call 858-592-9200 and we will be happy to help you.
